Popup window- call phone number to fix infected computer scam

Not yet followed by anyone

If you get a popup window on your screen while you are on the internet telling you that they are from Microsoft and that your computer is at risk or is infected, DO NOT CALL THE PHONE NUMBER OR ENGAGE IN ANY WAY.

This is a scam.

Microsoft will never contact any user to tell them their PC is infected, and that they must call a phone number to get it fixed. No computer manufacturer or software vendor will ever do this.

Do not call the phone number.

Do not click on any links in the popup window.

Close it, shut the browser down, update your antivirus program and run a full scan.

Also, run an antimalware program such as Malwarebytes or AdwCleaner.

Feel free to contact SmartMLS technical support for assistance with this.
